Who we are

WellWatchData ("we", "us") operates wellwatchdata.com — a publisher of public-record intelligence on orphan-well remediation, plug-and-abandonment contracts, and federal remediation funding. For privacy questions, email privacy@wellwatchdata.com.

What we collect

• Email address — when you sign up for the newsletter, sign in to your account, or subscribe to The Brief.
• Subscription & billing — managed by Stripe. We never see or store full card numbers; Stripe holds payment data and we hold a Stripe customer ID.
• Authentication tokens — Firebase Authentication issues an HttpOnly session cookie on sign-in.
• Saved alerts — counties or operators you've chosen to track.
• Server logs — IP address, user-agent, and timestamp for security and abuse-prevention purposes; rotated within 30 days.

We don't use cookies for advertising. We don't set cross-site tracking pixels.

Processors we use

• Google Cloud / Firebase — hosting, authentication, database (Cloud SQL Postgres). DPA signed at Google Cloud Terms.
• Stripe — subscription billing.
• Beehiiv — newsletter list management and delivery.
• Resend — transactional email (alerts, account notices). Sends from notifications.wellwatchdata.com.
• Google Analytics 4 — anonymous traffic measurement, only loaded after you accept the cookie banner. No advertising features, no Google Signals.
• ScrapingBee — server-side data acquisition only; not exposed to your browser.
• Anthropic & Google Gemini — server-side editorial drafting and document parsing only; we don't share user data with these services.

How we use your data

• Deliver the newsletter and alerts you signed up for.
• Provide and bill the Brief subscription.
• Operate and improve the site (debugging, abuse prevention).
• Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell or share personal data with third parties for their marketing.

Your rights

You can request access, correction, or deletion of your personal data at any time by emailing privacy@wellwatchdata.com. We'll respond within 30 days.

California — CCPA / CPRA

If you're a California resident, you have the right to know, delete, correct, and to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information. WellWatchData does not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA. If that ever changes, this page will be updated and a "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" mechanism will be made available.

Data retention

Account data is retained while your account exists plus 90 days after deletion (for billing reconciliation). Server logs: 30 days. Newsletter content and your saved alerts: while your account is active.

Children

WellWatchData is a B2B trade publication; we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

Material changes are emailed to subscribers and posted here with an updated date. Non-material changes (typo fixes, link updates) are posted without notice.
